The Hopestone is a curious rock standing alongside a modern far on Park Lane, between the village of Ipstones and Foxt.
This natural rock outcrop, vaguely resembling the head of a man, may be the ‘ upper stone’ or ‘yppe’ which is referred to in the origin of the name Ipstones

This place could have been an important site of worship in prehistoric times. It is said there are intriguing circles carved into the top of the rock which look like the work of human hands.
It is fascinating and beguiling to think of the secrets this impressive stone holds as it accompanies the centuries old farmhouse standings beside.
It is possible this was also a site of ancient sacrifices and rituals now lost to our modern world.
